On Friday, May 12th Harvard Club of Bulgaria (HCB) held a dinner with Dr. Richard Ewing, President of the American College of Sofia (ACS). Dr. Ewing spoke about the history and the principles guiding the educational approach at ACS and the secret ingredients – the “magic” that makes ASC students great. According to him, this is a combination between American entrepreneurship and positive outlook and the intelligence and special talents of Bulgarian students.
Some key features he identified for the success of ACS students are a rigorous academic environment, emphasis on practical experience, securing a space for creativity and a commitment to public service.
Dr. Ewing, who holds a bachelor degree from Yale University and a doctorate in education from Harvard University, appreciated HCB’s efforts to strengthen the connection between Harvard University and ACS. As a life-long educator, who has held a variety of positions in the Washington, DC area, he is uniquely position to offer great insight on educational practices.
